The 2024 Ford Escape offers two gas engines and one hybrid engine — available in two variants — to provide you with a range of options, allowing you to customize the power and efficiency of your desired Escape. The Escape Active™ is exclusive with the base 1.5L EcoBoost I3, while the remaining trims can opt for a hybrid powertrain. The Plug-in Hybrid trim is standard with the plug-in hybrid variant and includes a Level 1 mobile power cord that’s compatible with any standard 120-volt outlet. For an even more thrilling experience, choose an Escape trim that offers the 2.0L EcoBoost I4 for greater performance specs.
Choose between front-wheel drive (FWD) or intelligent all-wheel drive (AWD) on the Active, ST-Line, and Platinum models. Intelligent AWD is standard on the ST-Line Select and ST-Line Elite trims, while FWD is the only option on the Plug-in Hybrid trim.

Available on the ST-Line, ST-Line Elite, Platinum, and Plug-in Hybrid, this package includes all the equipment you need to tow items as well as additional safety trailering features for more confidence. Ford Escape Engine Differences
1.5L EcoBoost® I3
Standard in the 2022 Ford Escape lineup, the 1.5L EcoBoost® is equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission and automatic start/stop technology, which helps lower fuel consumption and vehicle emissions by shutting off the engine when fully stopped. This engine produces 181 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque, and offers the choice between a front-wheel drive (FWD) system or intelligent all-wheel drive (AWD), which detects when AWD is not needed and adapts to reduce drag. Additionally, the 1.5L achieves up to 28 city and 34 highway MPG.
2.0L EcoBoost I4
Standard on the Titanium trim, the available 2.0L EcoBoost engine is a highly-capable powerhouse engineered to impress. Available only with intelligent AWD as well as automatic start/stop, the 2.0L engine pairs with a SelectShift® eight-speed automatic transmission and produces 250 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. When equipped with the Class II Trailer Tow Package, this engine has a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds — so whatever you need for the family road trip, you can bring it in tow. Fuel economy with this engine is rated at 22 city and 31 highway MPG.
2.5L I4 Hybrid
For those who desire capability and efficiency, the 2.5L hybrid Atkinson-cycle engine features a 96 kilowatt motor and an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (eCVT) as well as the choice between FWD and intelligent AWD. Producing 165 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque, this hybrid engine can impressively achieve up to 44 city and 37 highway MPG.
2.5L I4 Plug-in Hybrid
Experience fuel efficiency like never before when you choose the 2.5L plug-in hybrid Atkinson-cycle engine. This energy-efficient powertrain has a Level 1 and Level 2 AC charging port, is available only in FWD, and — like the hybrid engine — is paired with an eCVT while producing 165 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque. Unlike its counterpart, however, the plug-in hybrid engine achieves up to 105 combined MPG, so you can stretch your dollars and your miles on the go.
When you opt for the Level 1 charger, you can expect an estimated 10- to 11-hour charging time; the Level 2 charger reduces that time to about 3.5 to 4.5 hours.
